This poem was written prior to this past Christmas in response to a friends’ joking suggestion that I give my wife a gargoyle garden statue as a gift. You never know where your inspiration will come from.
Christmas Gargoyle
Fred struggled to find a gift
During the Christmas season
Something his wife would like
And so was the reason
A nice garden statue
Might please her so
He asked the advice of a friend
What she might know
She said maybe a gargoyle
Would be a surprise
If nothing else
It would generate a rise
So, Fred made the purchase
Gave it on Xmas eve
His wife’s icy reaction
Should have made him leave
Now Fred is dead
To death, he bled
When the gargoyle fell
Breaking open his head
But it has been suggested
By others instead
That his wife beaned him with it
Before going to bed
So, when shopping for gifts
It is best to think twice
Proceed with some caution
Before taking advice.
